Club Outing on 30th July
Titan Crane Clydebank Titan Crane- Scaling
new heights in photography!
Around 8 members visited the Titan Crane at Clydebank attaining
heights of photography not reached before! the Titan Crane
stands 150ft tall and was once instrumental in the shipbuilding
industry at John Brown's.
Luckily members did not have to ascend the staircase that
was once used by the crane operator which we were told by
our guide Emma would have taken 30 minutes to reach the top!
instead a lift has been installed at the Crane and we were
whizzed upwards in no time at all! Once on the crane we were
treated to views across the river Clyde and Cart, Glasgow
airport and surrounds, Clydebank and out towards the Erskine
bridge.
Although it was a dry evening there was a slight haze in
the sky and flat lighting conditions but there was added interest
when a large working vessel, 'Shoarway', took a short trip
towards the Erskine bridge. As well as water craft there was
opportunity to take images of the many aircraft on their final
descent into Glasgow airport.
S ome members of our group however decided to try their photographic
skills in the people and faces category when they spotted
potential images of local explorers investigating the surrounding
landscape....
A ccess to the machine room of the crane also provided potential
close up images of machine parts.
F or members who did not manage to attend the outing the Crane
is only open on a seasonal basis and it is well worth a visit,
not just for photo opportunities but also to learn of the
history of John Brown's and the ships that were built there.
