Club Outing on 30th July

Titan Crane Clydebank Titan Crane- Scaling new heights in photography!

Around 8 members visited the Titan Crane at Clydebank attaining heights of photography not reached before! the Titan Crane stands 150ft tall and was once instrumental in the shipbuilding industry at John Brown's.

Luckily members did not have to ascend the staircase that was once used by the crane operator which we were told by our guide Emma would have taken 30 minutes to reach the top! instead a lift has been installed at the Crane and we were whizzed upwards in no time at all! Once on the crane we were treated to views across the river Clyde and Cart, Glasgow airport and surrounds, Clydebank and out towards the Erskine bridge.

Although it was a dry evening there was a slight haze in the sky and flat lighting conditions but there was added interest when a large working vessel, 'Shoarway', took a short trip towards the Erskine bridge. As well as water craft there was opportunity to take images of the many aircraft on their final descent into Glasgow airport.

S ome members of our group however decided to try their photographic skills in the people and faces category when they spotted potential images of local explorers investigating the surrounding landscape....

A ccess to the machine room of the crane also provided potential close up images of machine parts.
F or members who did not manage to attend the outing the Crane is only open on a seasonal basis and it is well worth a visit, not just for photo opportunities but also to learn of the history of John Brown's and the ships that were built there.

CLUB OUTING
Blair Drummond Safari Park

A few club members went on an expedition in June to Blair Drummond Safari Park.

The weather was just right with bright sunshine with cloudy intervals so lots of shots were taken of the varied wild life.

We stopped off at the sea lion show which gave us a good laugh with the seals mimicking sharks and doing many a summersault.

Stars of the day were the Birds of Prey which gave a spectacular fly past, all too short for the groups liking.

Club Outing – Seabird Cruise was on Wednesday 9 June

Eleven members joined the seabird cruise which departed from the Hawes Pier, South Queensferry on 9th June.

The sky was bright but overcast with the odd burst of sunshine. Pretty much ideal conditions for a photo outing.

some of the club cruisers

The cruise presented a great opportunity for getting shots of seals, seabirds and many of the sights on the Forth including getting close up to, and under, the Forth Rail Bridge.

We were lucky enough to see Puffins, Guillemots, Razorbills, Eiders and Terns.

Puffin take off

Retiring to the Hawes Inn for refreshments there was many a story of the one that got away and on leaving we were blessed with a beautiful sunset to round off an enjoyable evening out.
