GDPU Image League final score sheet 2016

On 26th April a very good number of club members travelled to East Kilbride for the Annual GDPU Inter Club Image League Final.  We had qualified quite comfortably, winning our three league ties, and joined Carluke, Clydesdale, Greenock, Gryffe and Kilmaurs in the final.  Having won the Lizars Trophy for the past two years we were quietly confident we could make it three in a row.  Ken Lindsay’s selection of images from eight different members did the trick.  It was fairly close during the first half however after the tea-break we pulled away with a fantastic two images scoring 20 and six images scoring 19.  Ken Wilkie accepted the trophy on behalf of the club.  For the record we had three images which scored 20 marks, ‘Shadow Chaser’ by Gary Winston, ‘Fog on the Clyde’ by David Hendry and ‘Sparrowhawk with Bullfinch’ by Peter De Marco. A celebratory group photo was taken after the results were announced.

GDPU Tie Thursday 5 November 2015

Eastwood PS v Hamilton CC

The competition this evening was judged by Andrew Cameron from Livingston Camera Club. In his short introduction Andrew informed us that he took up photography in the 90's and that he is in his sixth year as a judge.

Andrew gave a brief outline of how he scores the images, presents his evenings and gave us information regarding how he reaches his conclusions;
1. Feedback (appraisals)
2.Scoring (competitive - club v club strengths and improvement)
3.Best images = Best Marks.

The evening moved along with an air of expectation with both sets of club members listening intently to the feedback. There was controversy along the way which all added to the excitement in the end Eastwood came out on top with the final score as follows:

Eastwood PS 339 Hamilton CC 329.

The top image on the night was from Peter DeMarco of Eastwood PS with a mark of 20 for his Kingfisher,

GDPU Tie Thursday 3 December 2015

Eastwood PS v Queens Park CC

Our second GDPU Image League tie was against near neighbours Queens Park Camera Club on 3rd December. The judge was Clive Watkins from Townend Camera Club in Ayr. In his introduction Clive said there were some tremendous images presented for the tie and his marking certainly bore this out with no less than five photos gaining the maximum 20 points, four of these from Eastwood authors.

One of these was “Mending the Net” by Stuart McCann. Clive said that what made this a great shot was the ‘phenominal’ light and the detail throughout the images. This was his top image. Other Eastwood maximum scoring images were “We Never Sleep” by Keith Beard, “Kingfisher” by Peter De Marco and another from Stuart called “The Race”.

After a healthy lead midway through the tie Eastwood built on this in the second half finally running out comfortable winners 367-341. Our final tie is against Clydebank on 10th December.

Jim McCreery.

GDPU Tie Thursday 10 December 2015

Eastwood PS v Clydebank CC

Our third Image League tie against Clydebank took place last night. Judge Bob Brown's typically robust comments and idiosyncratic scoring with quarter, half and three-quarter marks made keeping manual track of the scores more of a task than usual. Once again Peter's Kingfisher was top image with 20, two Clydebank images took equal second place, followed by Gary's Little Egret, Large Fish (19.5) and Stuart's Mending the Net (19.25) and The Race (19).

A number of other high scores for our images gave a result of EPS 360.75, Clydebank 307. This means that we have once again qualified for the Image League final in East Kilbride at the end of April looking to make it a hat-trick of victories.
