EASTWOOD PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY
COMPETITION RULES and TROPHY ALLOCATION 2011-12

1 GENERAL

1.1 It is expected that contemporary work should be submitted for all competitions including the Exhibition of Digital images & Prints

1.2 Images entered for each competition must be new to that competition and can only be used twice in all club competitions.

1.3 Trade or home processed prints are acceptable to all Society competitions.

1.4 Any competition (Advanced and Novice) must have more than one entrant to be valid. If there is only one entry, this will be withdrawn from the competition by the Competition Secretary, but can be re-entered in a later round of the competition.

1.5 Any member (except for new members, who are exempt) wishing to enter the Exhibition of Digital Images & Prints must have entered at least one of the earlier rounds of the print and digital competitions.

2 DEFINITIONS
2.1 A monochrome work fitting from the very dark grey (black) to the very clear grey (white) is a monochrome work with the various shades of grey. A monochrome work toned entirely in a single colour will remain a monochrome work able to stand in the monochrome category.
2.2 A monochrome image modified by a partial toning or by the addition of one colour becomes a colour work (polychrome) to stand in the colour category. This and other images fall into the colour category.

2.3 A digital image is defined as input processed digitally whether by way of a digital camera or by scanning of film or film derived print.

3 PRINT COMPETITIONS
3.1 Black & White, Monochrome and Colour prints are eligible.

3.2 Prints should be suitably mounted for Judges to handle and display.

3.3 The colour, shape and size of the mount is at the members' discretion subject only to a maximum size limitation of 500mm X 400mm.

3.4 On the reverse side of the mounting board, the correct way up, each print shall be identified in the following manner:- “A” for Advanced or “N” for Novice; Membership Number; Print number (01 to 03); Note that prints should be numbered in order of preference (from 01 up to 03). Print Title. So for example: A112701 Flight of the Bumble Bee. In this example the Prefix A denotes an ‘Advanced’ worker whose membership number is 1127 and the print number is 01 (ensure the zero is included for numbers between 1 and 3).
3.5 A novice worker who wins the Print competition (over the two rounds) becomes an advanced worker from the following season in both print and digital competitions.

4 DIGITAL COMPETITIONS
4.1 Images for this competition shall be produced as defined in Definition 2.4 and viewed by digital projection and/or computer monitor.

4.2 Black & White, Monochrome and Colour images are eligible.

4.3 Where used, borders will be taken as part of the image. Text e.g. title must not be entered in the border area.

4.4 All entries must have originated as a photograph/s taken by the entrant and the entrant must have made any subsequent digital manipulation. The final image must have significant photographic content.

4.5 All images must be submitted as a digital file by one of the following methods; DVD, CD, Memory Stick or emailed to club competition Secretary

4.6 Each Digital image shall be identified in the following manner:- “A” for Advanced or “N” for Novice; Membership Number; Image number (01 to 03); Note that images should be numbered in order of preference (from 01 up to 03). Image Title. So for example: A112701 Flight of the Bumble Bee. 4.7 All images shall be in sRGB colour space and JPEG format with all layers flattened or merged with a maximum horizontal dimension of 1400 pixels and a maximum vertical dimension of 1050 pixels.

4.8 A novice worker who wins the Digital competition (over the two rounds) becomes an advanced worker from the following season in digital and prints.

5 ADVANCED/NOVICE STATUS
5.1 The status of a new member will be confirmed by the committee upon joining the Society.

5.2 The committee may ask for details of previous work and submissions to other competitions or organisations and the results to assist them.

5.3 If necessary, the committee may ask for a portfolio of work to be submitted for consideration.

5.4 Promotion to the advanced section will be by winning the appropriate Novice section of the two round Print Competition, the two round Digital Competition or the Points Championship.

5.5 Members wishing to proceed to the advanced section may submit a portfolio of their work to the committee, for their consideration. This portfolio should consist of ten slides, ten prints or ten digital images, eight of which must be of advanced standard. The work should meet the usual competition rules.

TROPHY ALLOCATION SEASON 2011-2012


PRINT COMPETITION – 2 ROUNDS
Novice and advanced workers compete separately.
Maximum of 3 submissions per round. Images should be numbered in order of preference (from 1 upwards).
A winner will be declared for each round.
Overall winners (Novice and Advanced) shall be those with the highest aggregate score of all of their 6 submissions.

DIGITAL COMPETITION – 2 ROUNDS
Novice and advanced workers compete separately.
Maximum of 3 submissions per round. See Competition Rules for sizing, numbering conventions etc.
A winner will be declared for each round.
Overall winners (Novice and Advanced) shall be those with the highest aggregate score of all of their 6 submissions.

PEOPLE AND FACES COMPETITION
Open competition for both Novice and Advanced workers.
This competition is for print only with a maximum of 3 submissions.
Images must be of either people or faces.
Highest aggregate score wins the competition.

MONOCHROME COMPETITION
Open competition for both Novice and Advanced workers.
This competition is for monochrome prints with a maximum of 3 submissions. Images should be numbered in order of preference (from 1 upwards).
Highest aggregate score wins the competition
Winner EDDIE McMURDO CHALLENGE CUP
SET SUBJECT – ‘MACRO or (CLOSE- UP) COMPETITION
Open competition for both Novice and Advanced workers.
This competition is for digital images only with a maximum of 3 submissions.
Images must be of the set subject.
Highest aggregate score wins the competition.
Winner MORTON PLATE

EXHIBITION OF PRINTS
Novice and Advanced workers compete separately.
Maximum of 3 prints. Images should be numbered in order of preference (from 1 upwards).
New or once only previously used images on any subject can be used.
Highest aggregate score wins the competition.
